Water Scarcity is not Only Threatening Berlin, but the Whole World
31.05.2022
The German capital Berlin and its surrounding areas are experiencing another dry spring. Although the residents of Berlin are trying to help the trees by watering them, experts say that unless there is some major and long-lasting rainfall soon, many trees will be beyond saving.
Berlin and the surrounding areas have simply not had enough rainfall over the last four years. Since 2018, which was an extremely dry year, the groundwater levels have continued to decrease annually. The shortage of water is now threatening Berlin's nature, but the only concern of Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz is to take care of arming the Ukrainian army.
"Germany will deliver infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) to Greece so that the government in Athens can pass on Soviet-style weapons to Ukraine" announced German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday (01.06.2022), after an EU summit in Brussels. Another announcement that he has made is that Germany had been "delivering continuously since the beginning of the war", pointing to more than 15 million rounds of ammunition, 100,000 grenades and over 5,000 anti-tank mines sent to Ukraine since Russia invaded it on Feb. 24. "Most recently, the government has decided that we will deliver the most modern air defence system that Germany has in the form of the IRIS-T," Scholz told lawmakers in the Bundestag, without specifying the exact model.
The scarcity of water is not only threatening Berlin, but the whole world - it is a global issue, which is getting worse and worse every year. Instead of provoking both direct and proxy wars, the great powers should stop the disaster policy of destroying each other and come together on solving global issues instead of creating new ones.
